Summary
editDescriptionErie County Office Building, 134 West Eagle Street, Buffalo, New York - 20210205.jpg |
English: The Erie County office building at 134 West Eagle Street (corner Lower Terrace) in downtown Buffalo, New York, as seen in February 2021. A fine example of the so-called "Stripped Classical" style of architecture situated on an unusual five-sided parcel, the dark reddish-brown brick that makes up the bulk of the exterior façade contrasts with lighter-colored stone trim that comes in the form of band courses crowning all but the second floor, lintels above the ground-floor windows, engaged Ionic (near the entrance) and Doric (at the corners of the building) pilasters, and a modest-scaled entrance portico comprising a pair of Tuscan columns supporting a flat-topped entablature. The building was erected in 1924 to a design by the firm of North, Shelgren & Swift and today houses the offices of the Erie County Sheriff's Department and Board of Elections. |
