Summary edit

Description
English: With its glabrous tepals that fuse into a stipe-like base, this buckwheat belongs to Eriogonum umbellatum. However, it is confined to subalpine and alpine habitats, has a compact growth habit, and has cream-yellow flowers that fade reddish post-anthesis. Such morphological variation best fits variety dichrocephalum. According to Jim Reveal (Intermountain Flora), such populations are known from the Rubys and East Humboldts so a presence in the Jarbidge Mountains is not too surprising. This site is along saddle between Cougar and Prospect Peaks, Jarbidge Mountains.
