Description
Deutsch: Wasserturm in der Apfelstraße 12 / Ecke Wasserturmstraße in Erlangen. Der ursprünglich sechsgeschossige Wasserturm wurde 1705 errichtet. Er speicherte Wasser, das man zur Pflege des auf sandigem Boden angelegten Schlossgartens und unter anderem zum Betrieb seiner Springbrunnen benötigte. 1818 ging der Turm in den Besitz der Universität über und lieferte später auch das Wasser für die im Schlossgarten errichteten Institute. 1839 bis 1898 benutzte die Universität zwei Räume im dritten Geschoss als Karzer, von denen einer heute noch im originalen Zustand erhalten ist. 1876 wurden die drei oberen Stockwerke wegen Baufälligkeit abgetragen.
