Description

Erythrina abyssinica Flame trees are indigenous to East Africa. They are absolutely when in full bloom, particularly against the verdant backdrop of western Uganda's rolling hills. This photo doesn't do it justice. Local names include mwamba-ngoma (Kiwswahili); muyirikiti (Luganda); mriri (Chagga).

Interesting fact: the bark is a traditional remedy for gonorrhoea.
