Summary

edit
Description
English: The Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in southern Utah has become a political hot potato since it was originally created in by President Clinton in 1996. Initially, more than 1,880,461 acres was protected as a designated monument. The land was among the last land to be mapped in the lower 48 states of the U.S. In 2018, that monument was reduced in size to just over a million acres by President Trump in an action being challenged in court by conservation and outdoor recreation groups arguing the president has authority to create a monument, but not shrink one.
