Description

In 1962, Max Thomas excavated a tunnel under the Berlin wall starting underneath a chicken coop on his farm which was adjacent to the wall, He led his wife and four elderly couples to freedom in the West. He constructed the tunnel with an internal height of two metres, stating, “No one in my family would crawl through any tunnel, we wanted to WALK to freedom” When British Soldiers visited the Western end of the tunnel after the escape they were amazed at the quality of the construction
