Description
The Matilde station, inaugurated in 1910, was the last one built by the EFSES (Estrada de Ferro Sul de Espírito Santo) on the Vitória - Cachoeira line. The station was important because it facilitated the transport of local coffee production to the Atlantic port of Vitória. The station was built near the railway bridge over the Benevente River, and the iron water tank on a stone base and parts of the bogie for the locomotive have also been preserved. The building itself was intended for passenger check-in, coffee storage and transport, and the residence of the stationmaster. It is an example of the English style with exposed stone and brick, and the construction is refined and rigorous in its execution and workmanship. Its proportions and materiality attract attention. The roof with its wooden structure and French tiles stands out.
