editDescriptionEtruscan-Roman cinerary urn from Volaterrae circa 100 BC (51233585448).jpg |
Etruscan-Roman cinerary urn made around 100 BC in Volaterrae, the present Volterra in Tuscany (Italy). The funeral procession is composed of musicians, soldiers and magistrates. Two riders hold a palm branch, suggesting that the scene also represents a triumphant march at which the deceased was entitled during his lifetime. On the right, the procession leads to a sanctuary where a sheep is sacrificed. London, the British Museum, inv. 1925.1218.1.
