Summary edit

Description

Native, warm-season, annual (rarely biennial), erect herb to 50 cm tall. The basal rosette of leaves soon withers. Leaves

have a distinct midvein; the upper surface is green and hairless to slightly cobwebby, while the lower surface is white or green and covered in dense, matted hairs. Flowerheads are dense spherical clusters of small (1-1.5 mm wide) heads at the stem tip and are surrounded by leafy bracts that greatly exceed the heads. Smaller clusters sometimes occur in the upper leaf axils. Flowering is from spring to autumn. Found in many habitats; most commonly scattered in disturbed, moister areas, in full sun to partial shade. Native biodiversity. Of little grazing value as it is low yielding, stemmy and a minor pasture component.
