Description

Le muséum de Saint-Denis de la Réunion possède une collection importante de lémuriens naturalisés provenant de Madagascar. La vitrine présente un "Eulemur fulvus collaris"

Les populations de lémuriens sont très menacées par la déforestation de Madagascar.

A Saint-Denis, le jardin d'acclimatation créé par la Compagnie des Indes abrite le bâtiment néo-classique du Palais législatif qui est devenu en 1855 le muséum d'histoire naturelle. Les collections sont constituées en grande partie entre 1865 et 1893 grâce à des dons, des collectes dans les îles de la zone, et également des échanges avec d'autres musées (Paris, Strasbourg, Leyde aux Pays-Bas, Port-Adélaide en Australie).
