Description

Le Royal Hôtel est dédié au roi d'Angleterre Edouard VII. C'est le premier hôtel de luxe à obtenir une cinquième étoile.

En 1905, la Société des eaux minérales d'Evian commande à l'architecte Jean-Albert Hébrard le "plus bel hôtel du monde".

Le roi d'Angleterre Edouard VII promet d'en être l'un des premiers hôtes. Le nom de l'hôtel est trouvé, ce sera le "Royal Hôtel".

L'hôtel sera inauguré le 16 juin 1909.

Edourd VII meurt en 1910 sans avoir pu utiliser la chambre qui lui était réservée (il faudra attendre 1991 avec la visite de la reine Elisabeth).

Greta Garbo et Sacha Guitry auront leurs habitudes au Royal. L'Aga Khan III y avait sa propre série de couverts en vermeil de chez Christofle. Il y avait un appartement à l'année.

Aga Khan III épousa en 3ème mariage, le 7 décembre 1929, à Aix-les-Bains, Andrée Joséphine Carron (1898 - 1976). Fille de boucher, elle était anciennement vendeuse dans un magasin de bonbons et était co-propriétaire d'un magasin de chapeaux.

Le Royal Hôtel accueillera le G8 (cartel des 8 pays les plus industrialisés) début juin 2003. Ce G8 verra une importante manifestation altermondialiste de Genève à Annemasse.

King Edward VII of England promises to be one of the first guests. The hotel name is found, it will be the "Royal Hotel".

The hotel will be opened June 16, 1909.

Edourd VII died in 1910 without being able to use the room that was reserved for him (it was not until 1991 with the visit of Queen Elizabeth).

Greta Garbo and Sacha Guitry have their habits at the Royal. The Aga Khan III had his own series of vermeil cutlery gilt Christofle. There was an apartment for the year.

Aga Khan III married his third marriage, December 7, 1929, in Aix-les-Bains, Andrée Joséphine Carron (1898 - 1976). Daughter of a butcher, she was formerly saleswoman in a candy store and was co-owner of a hat shop.

The Royal Hotel will host the G8 (cartel eight most industrialized countries) in early June 2003. The G8 will be an important anti-globalization demonstration in Geneva Annemasse.
