Guardias de seguridad que trabajan para la empresa que construye el oleoducto Dakota Access atacaron con perros y gas pimienta a un grupo de indígenas estadounidenses que se resistían a la construcción del oleoducto valorado en 3.800 millones de dólares. Si se termina, el oleoducto Dakota Access transportará el equivalente a unos quinientos mil barriles de crudo por día, desde la cuenca petrolera de Bakken, ubicada en Dakota del Norte, hasta Illinois, donde se encontraría con un oleoducto ya existente que transportaría el petróleo hasta Texas. La construcción del oleoducto ha enfrentado una fuerte oposición durante meses por parte de la tribu sioux Standing Rock y miembros de casi cien tribus de todo Estados Unidos y Canadá.
