English: Expect to get held up on Drygrange Bridge The mind boggles at the thought of long queues of pedestrians and cyclists patiently waiting up to 3½ hours while Drygrange Bridge is inspected, since the bridge is rarely busier than shown here. Admittedly, until 1973 there were probably regular delays when this bridge across the Tweed, more than adequate for turnpike users in 1780, carried the A68 road and one of the main traffic flows between Scotland and the North East of England. This bridge has been bypassed by a high-level concrete and steel bridge and now only the most environment-friendly forms of road user are allowed across it. |
