Description
English: This 1,200 pound F-1 Injector Plate, 44 inches in diameter, from one of the first-stage engines of Apollo 11's Saturn V rocket recovered from the floor of the Atlantic Ocean in 2013. The injector plate sprayed liquid oxygen and kerosene propellants through the hundreds of small visible holes into the combustion chamber. The protruding baffles, which were bent by the force of the first stage crashing into the ocean, helped regulate the flow of the hot gases during the 2 1/2 minutes of combustion.
