Summary edit

Description Photo of a landing mishap of a Vought F4U-4 Corsair aboard the U.S. aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea (CVB-43), on 2 August 1950 (1949?). As an eyewittness recalled in the "Naval Aviation News", issue October 1978, p. 40, the Corsair stood like this for a few seconds on its prop before falling back on its landing gear. The "00"-marking identifies this as the personal aircraft of the Commander Air Group (CAG), which was, however, flown to the Coral Sea by a young ensign that day. He was the first plane landing that day during carrier qualifications. The tail code "M" identifies this aircraft as part of Carrier Air Group Two (CVG-2), which was deployed on the Coral Sea to the Mediterranean Sea from 3 May to 26 September 1949. On 24 August 1950, CVG-2 deployed on the USS Boxer (CV-21) to Korea.
