This Centurion entered service in 1953 as a standard gun tank, but was later converted to an AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) variant. It was fitted with a 165mm L9A1 demolition gun and had a hydraulically-operated dozer blade at the front of the hull. It could also carry a fascine or roll of Class 70 trackway, and could tow either an AVRE trailer or Giant Viper mine-clearance equipment. With a crew of five, it was used to support Combat Engineers when breaching obstacles. It saw combat during Operation Granby / Desert Storm, whilst serving with 77 Armoured Engineer Squadron, 32 Armoured Engineer Regiment. Loaned to the IWM in February 1993, it was eventually donated as a gift on 18 October 2002. It is seen parked outside the Land Warfare Hall, Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire, UK.
