Summary edit

Description

Cold war era British Armoured Ramp Carrier The ARK was built on a Mk 5 Centurion tank chassis and differs from the Centurion AVLB because the vehicle itself becomes part of the completed bridge. This allowed it to span a 75ft gap and carry up to 80 tons, even while standing in flowing water up to 6ft deep. The type was in British Army service from 1965 to 1977. This example is on display at the Royal Engineers Museum Gillingham, Kent, UK
