DescriptionFabales - Strongylodon macrobotrys - kew 1.jpg |
English: Jade vine or emerald vine (Strongylodon macrobotrys) with seeds in Kew Gardens, England.
With its long, hanging stems of vivid green, wisteria-like flowers, the Jade Vine is one of the rarest and most elegant of all tropical vines. Native to the rainforests of the Philippines, its habitat is now at risk from forest clearance. Jade vines have been grown at Kew for many years, but until 1995, had never produced seed. After careful studies of the flower's structure, scientists from Kew's Jodrell Laboratory managed to pollinate the flowers successfully and the long-awaited seeds developed. Studies on Jade Vine biology continue in an effort to assist conservation efforts in its native habitat.Magyar: Strongylodon macrobotrys magokkal az angliai Királyi Botanikus Kertekben. |
