English: Nested Reliquary Caskets. Tang Dynasty. Famen Si
A bone relic of the Buddha was enshrined within this precious set of eight nested containers. The innermost, shown at the bottom of this photo, is made of solid gold and fashioned in the shape of a pagoda; the eighth and outermost no longer exists. The other boxes are fashioned, variously, of gold, silver, or silver gilded with gold. |
