Summary
editTaken during the construction of the Coulsdon Town Centre Improvement Scheme, looking from the Brighton Road towards Smitham railway station. It was a requirement that rail traffic on the Tattenham Corner Line should not be interrupted so a cunning plan described here was adopted. The ends of the horizontal pipes to support the track and platforms can be seen. In the centre is the end of the former pedestrian subway. This has been re-inforced with steel girders. A footbridge was built to replace the subway. The reinforced concrete box which forms the bridge has been slid into its final position.
When the road opened, it was named Farthing Way by the children of a local primary school [1].
