I got to St John's Town of Dalry in just over six hours for about a 15 mile trip thanks to forest roads providing easy walking. But I was soaked, wet and feeling pretty gloomy. I had barely rested as there'd been no shelter and I'd been going like the clappers to try and get the section done as quickly as possible. I was exhausted. I looked at the weather forecast on my phone and it suggested it would be very grim for the next five days. That evening the forecast was completely different suggesting the next day would be bad but after that just a few showers, but at this point it looked horrendous - so much so that I was briefly tempted to flee and get the next train home. I'd reached my destination very early It was only 2pm but given the weather there was no way I was camping. I decided to stay at the first place I found that had a spare bed. That was the Clachan Inn in Dalry where I had a very long hot bath and a cup of tea for the rest of the afternoon.
