Notes | Barbara Florentyna Chłapowska, second wife (from 1807) of general Jan Henryk Dąbrowski, was accompanying her husband during Napoleon's expedition to Russia. The fifth stanza of the national anthem of Poland: "A father, in tears, Says to his Basia Listen, our boys are said To be beating the tarabans", possibly refers to her. Some historians blame her for slow relocation of Polish troops during the Battle of Berezina, when during the retreat from Moscow, near Borisov, she was rescued by Edward Potworowski and other officers from being taken prison by the Cossacks. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
