English: This document is an English review article of Ferdie Mulder's Afrikaans book "Opgestaan" (Resurrected), published in the British journal Reformation Today on the internet. Mulder describes in detail how, when and where radical liberalism engulfed evangelical seminaries in South Africa since 1994. He describes how he, together with some forty six other students, after sever years of concern, letter and dialogues with church leaders and professors, put up a declaration confessing their faith in the bodily resurrection of Jesus. Mulder was finally expelled from his university after a four day dissiplinary hearing during which the professors who accused him of misrepresenting their views testified. The latter professors admitted during the investigation that they do not find it necessary to believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus any longer. Mulder and his student friends, supported by some evangelical professors never had it against cutting edge scientific research. The biggest concern was ethical. It was felt that many theologians and professors execute their scholarship in such a way that it does not contradict the heart of the Christian message, and basic doctrines of Christian faith. These concerns were ignored in favour of what amounts to a new liberal agenda in some churches and universities in South Africa. |
