DescriptionFergie - geograph.org.uk - 185189.jpg |
English: Fergie. Possibly the most influential piece of farm equipment since the invention of the plough. The Ferguson three point linkage found on the Fergie saved hundreds of farmers from death and injury by preventing ploughs digging in if it hit a boulder. In other designs the tractor could be pulled over backwards. These ubiquitous little tractors transformed farming the world over they were cheap, efficient and as this example shows robust. More than half a million of the original T-20's of various types were built from before WW2 to the mid 1950s . They opened up vast tracts of land previously uneconomic for arable farming. For more info see Ferguson TE20. |
