English: Inauguration at the foot of the fort of Sebha (Fezzan, Libya) in December 1948 of a stele commemorating the capture of the fort by the Free French Forces of General Leclerc in 1943. The stele was inaugurated by Marcel-Edmond Naegelen, governor general of Algeria, accompanied by the French minister of the Interior. France was then hoping to absorb the Fezzan to Algeria administratively and militarily. |
