Summary edit

Description
English: The Kikuyu name for the Strangler fig is Mugumo and is regarded as a sacred tree in traditional culture. Sacrifices and prayers were made under this tree with the aim that the tree would send the up to the creator, Ngai. Due to their sacred nature, mugumo trees are never cut down and if one dies it is seen as a bad omen. The strangler fig is so named for it's ability to grow in the crown of another tree, extending aerial roots around the host tree towards the ground and once there growing them into entire trunks, these trunks are seen to have an effect of "strangling" the host tree as the strangler fig often outlives the host. The file shows a Mugumo tree with multiple trunks probably formed by aerial roots that reached the ground, it seems to have grown solitarily as there is no sign of another tree, nor is there a hollow space in the centre where the host tree would have been.
