Description
English: IBM Fellow Chieko Asakawa interacts with a new voice navigation system developed by Shimizu Corporation and IBM Research to help people overcome difficulties with exploring the world around them — whether because of visual impairment, wheelchair use or lack of familiarity with their location or the local language. Here, the system is set to visually impaired user mode. Chieko’s smartphone is speaking at the faster speed she prefers. According to research, people with visual impairment can comprehend speech of 25 syllables per second, compared to 10 syllables by sighted people.
