Summary
editDescriptionFilton 1st railway station (site), Gloucestershire (geograph 6970037).jpg |
English: Filton 1st railway station (site), Gloucestershire Opened in 1863 by the Bristol & South Wales Union Railway, soon after part of the Great Western Railway, on the line from Bristol to New Passage. The ferry at New Passage was replaced by the Severn railway Tunnel in 1886. This station closed to passengers in 1903 when it was replaced by the second station, about 250m further north. View north towards the second Filton station (called "Filton Junction" from 1910 to 1968 - see ST6178 : Filton Junction railway station (site), Gloucestershire) and the Severn Tunnel. When opened, the railway here was just two tracks crossing a country lane - now the A4174! Taken from a train on the later 1903-built tracks curving around to Bristol Parkway station. The current Filton Abbey Wood station is around 300m behind the camera position. |
