| Description |
English: Finish, Scottish Score Championships 2008 A finisher in the event, which is an old form of the sport, where instead of running a cross country time trial, the runners get a fixed time, usually an hour to try and visit as many controls as possible. There are stiff penalties for being late, the trick is to keep running for as much of the hour as possible and find an optimum route. This is an application of the "Travelling Salesman Problem", Traveling_salesman_problem a well known mathematical conundrum - it is not possible to calculate such a route, but many of us get pretty close when orienteering. |
