Summary
editDescriptionFirst London bus RM1627 (627 DYE), 1963 Heritage Routemaster, route 9, 17 January 2012.jpg |
English: First London bus RM1627 (reg. 627 DYE), a 1963 Heritage Routemaster, operating a westbound service of London Buses heritage route 9. It's pictured here in Waterloo Place, heading for the terminus at Kensington High Street. Having been heading west along Pall Mall, it's seen here just completing the right turn into Waterloo Place to head north (heading on into Regent street, then left into Piccadilly). The bollards are the ones protecting the stone plinth of the statue of Florence Nightingale, part of the Crimean War Memorial. The crown and letters "I V W R" on the bollards are the Royal Cipher of William IV (the letters are correctly read as "W IV R"). From 25 February 2012, route 9 (ie both standard and heritage services) was altered between here and Piccadilly. Instead of making this turn, it now heads straight on along Pall Mall, making the right turn further on at St. James's Street, which then joins Piccadilly further west. It's wearing the standard livery worn by most heritage routemasters, a scheme based on their original London Transport red livery. The image has been altered to make it seem as if it's come from a historical print. |
