English: Built in 1916, this Classical Revival-style building was built for the First National Bank of Columbus, Wisconsin, founded in 1861. It provides a more traditional, conservative, and conventional counterpoint to the more expressive Farmers and Merchants Union Bank up the street, which was founded the same year, but took a decidedly different direction with the design of their new building only three years after the completion of this building. The building features a limestone-clad facade with fluted doric pilasters featuring egg and dart motif on the capitals, replacement windows, a small pedimented doric portico at the front entrance with “Founded 1861” engraved into the architrave and egg and dart moulding decorating the pediment, a granite base, an architrave above the second story windows with cartouches, a cornice with dentils, and a parapet enclosing the building’s low-slope roof. The building is a contributing structure in the Columbus Downtown Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
