Description

(1 in a multiple picture album) If you want to gauge the speed of the sun, find a place like this just before dawn. I waited until I saw the uppermost tips of these formation light up. Then it seemed to almost race to the bottom of the formations. In about a quarter hour the sun had reached the bottom. Then the sandstone started to loose its reddish color. This is why mornings are best for good pictures, followed by sunset.

For a brief time initially, the rocks began to glow like molten gold while the Virgin River gurgled peacefully at my feet. The wind in the cottonwoods whispers to me and in the distance I heard the sound of some wild turkeys. You can't ask for a better start to the day.
