Summary

edit
Description Workers install the trunnion girder of the first Tainter gate for the Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway in Folsom, Calif, June 19, 2014. The girder allows the gate to rotate and release water from the dam. The girder is secured to the dam by 16 high-strength steel rods, and must be carefully be mounted onto them to avoid even the slightest uncontrolled contact. “Even if you so much as nick one of those rods, you would have to replace it,” said David Neff, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ design manager for this phase of project.
