English: A 221 foot (67 m) radio tower built in Akron, Ohio, USA in 1931 that is said to be the first mast radiator. that is the first in which the metal tower structure itself serves as the antenna. This is the construction which most modern AM radio broadcasting masts use. The inset (right) shows one of the four legs of the tower, which is supported on ceramic insulators to keep it insulated from the ground. The article says that with the success of this tower, which was for the Akron police department, one of the US radio broadcasting networks is building a 600 foot mast radiator in New York. |
