Description
Deutsch: Westansicht des Stadtturmes, auch als Markt- und Fischaturm bezeichnet, in der niederösterreichischen Stadtgemeinde Fischamend.
Das Wahrzeichen der Stadt wurde ursprünglich um 1050 als Grenz- und Wachturm errichtet. Im 17. Jahrhundert wurde er um 2 achteckige Geschosse erhöht. Anlässlich der Straßenregulierung wurde 1728 die kreuzgratgewölbte Durchfahrt ausgebrochen und 1978 erfolgte die Verlegung der Bundesstraße 9 (Hainburger Straße/ Wiener Straße), so dass der Marktturm seitdem umfahren wird. Nach einem Brand 1834 wurde das Wahrzeichen renoviert und erhielt weitgehend sein heutiges Erscheinungsbild. Bis 1927 diente der Turm als Gemeindestube und Nachtwächterwohnung und wird seither als Heimatmuseum genutzt.
