Brass flat iron

Summary edit

Description
1. Hälfte 19. Jh.
English: Open air museum Roscheider Hof: Small flat bolt iron (box iron, travel iron) made of brass e.g. for travel with a ship-shaped hull. A heated bolt can be inserted into the hull from behind. This is used to heat the bottom of the iron. The interior can be closed with a slide inserted from the top with a handle and grip so that the iron wedge cannot fall out to the rear. For this purpose, there is a sliding flap at the rear wide end, which can be moved vertically to allow the hot bolt to be stirred in. The wooden handle is connected to the actual iron with 2 relatively long pins. Inside there are 3 ribs at the bottom which prevent the iron wedge from resting directly on the ground. 1st half 19th c.
