Description
Flavia A. Canfield (1/28/1844-8/12/1930), married the president of Ohio State University, James Hulme Canfield, on June 24, 1873 and lived in Columbus 1895-1900. She was the founder of the Columbus Federation of Women's Clubs and president of the Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs 1898-1900. In all, Flavia helped establish twenty-six women's clubs. Her daughter, Dorothy Francis Canfield Fisher (2/17/1879-11/9/1958), received her doctorate from Ohio State University in 1899, helped establish Maria Montessori's teaching methods in the US, and was a noted writer.
