Description

Old-growth tulip poplars (Liriodendron tulipifera), Jacobsburg Environmental Center, Northampton County.

The Henry's Woods Trail, skirting both sides of Bushkill Creek, features an old-growth forest of mostly hemlocks and mixed hardwoods. It is among the few remaining tracts of old-growth forest in the Lehigh Valley. (Another notable tract is farther east at the Martins Creek Environmental Preserve.)

The forest is lightly infested with the hemlock woolly adelgid, an exotic insect pest. The park service has flagged many trees for insecticide treatment.
