Vice Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Lloyd J. Austin III listens to feedback from Soldiers of the 1st Battalion, 35th Armored Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, during the Network Integration Evaluation 12.2 at White Sands Missile Range on May 17. Brig. Gen. Randal Dragon, center and to the right of Austin, commands the Brigade Modernization Command to which the 2/1 AD is attached to participate in Army modernization tasks. The Network Integration Evaluation (NIE), as part of the Agile Process, is a series of semi-annual evaluations designed to integrate and mature the Army's tactical network. The NIE assesses potential Network capabilities in a robust operational environment, using feedback from Soldiers of the 2/1 AD, to determine whether they perform as needed, conform to the Network architecture and are interoperable with existing systems. The NIE ensures that the Network satisfies the functional requirements of the force, and it relieves the end user of the technology
