Description

A BSA Gold Star 500 CC engine in a Norton Featherbed Frame.

The featherbed frame was a motorcycle frame developed by the British Norton motorcycle company to improve the performance of their racing motorcycles around the twisting and demanding Isle of Man TT course in 1949. It was considered revolutionary at the time, [1] and the best handling frame that a racer could have. [2] Later adopted for Norton production motorcycles, it was also widely used by motorcyclists on custom built hybrids and cafe racers such as the Triton, became legendary and remains influential to this day. [1] The Featherbed was replaced with the Norton Isolastic frame for the Norton Commando in September 1967[3] but continues to be produced by specialist companies. The BSA Gold Star, (1938–1963), is a 350 cc and 500 cc 4-stroke production motorcycle that gained its reputation for being one of the fastest machines of the 1950s. These motorcycles were popular for their high performance. Besides being hand built, with many optional performance modifications available, they came from the factory with documented dynamometer test results, allowing the new owner to see the horsepower produced.

Probably best of both worlds here. Ron.
