Description
English: Flight deck crews aboard the U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CV-6) rest en route to Guadalcanal Island, in mid-November 1942.
The photograph was released on 13 November 1942. On that day, aircraft from Enterprise helped to sink the Japanese battleship Hiei off Guadalcanal. Following the Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands, the damaged Enterprise reached Nouméa, New Caledonia, on 30 October for repairs, but a new Japanese thrust at the Solomons demanded her presence and she sailed on 11 November. She returned to Nouméa on 16 November 1942, following the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal.
