Summary
editDescriptionFlue, Surrender Smelting Mill - geograph.org.uk - 839360.jpg |
English: Flue, Surrender Smelting Mill In the smelting process the lead ore is heated to about 700°C in order to remove impurities which were left in the slag. Some lead vaporised and the poisonous fumes were vented high up the hillside. The venting up this flue gave the vapour a chance to solidify which could then be reused. The task of going up the flue to scrap off the solidified lead ore would have been left to small boys. |
