Summary
editDescriptionFlush Bracket, Holywood - geograph.org.uk - 1763951.jpg |
English: Flush Bracket, Holywood. Flush bracket located on the northern tip of High Street Presbyterian Church in Holywood 1768733.
The number on the bracket is OSNIBM 1002. The mark is 9.12 metres above MSL. A flush bracket is a type of bench mark set onto the face of a building. See also https://www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=11037856 for many other examples I have found. This is the oldest extant flush bracket in Ireland. OSNI produced an initial run of flush brackets numbered 1001-1025 that were used c1932-1936; of these, 21 were sited in the greater Belfast area and 4 in Derry/Londonderry. The oldest bracket, numbered 1001, was sited at J3984868764 but has unfortunately been destroyed. OSNI later used flush brackets in much greater numbers for the retriangulation and levelling of Northern Ireland in the 1950s and early 1960s. |
