| Description |
English: Folkestone, Old High Street The old 'Curiosity Shop' in the Old High Street in Folkestone, which 75 years ago was locked up by its owner and left with its stock of Chinese vases, ivories and other antiquities intact. The stock was still there in the early 1970s, but has gone now. The owner (Earl Harris) was a well known Folkestonian involved in the local swimming club, and (according to my father) had a trick of diving off one of the roof trusses of the pool building, into the pool, to entertain the kids. What caused him to abandon the shop is not recorded. |
