English: Presumed portrait of Anne-Louise-Julie de Crévant d'Humières (1665-1748) [see images below], misidentified with Marie Adélaïde of Savoy (1685-1712) and formerly identified as Elizabeth Charlotte of the Palatinate, Duchess of Orléans (1652-1722).
  • The depicted character bears little resemblance to verified representations of Marie Adélaïde of Savoy, but instead has many similarities to the Duchess of Humières, besides the era of the hairstyle (1680s) matches the age of the model (around 15 years old).

Français : "Cette figure de la noblesse française a été portraiturée à de multiples reprises. Parfois identifiée comme étant Louise Antoinette Thérèse de la Chatre de Nançay, duchesse d’Humières, notre princesse n’est vraisemblablement autre que Marie-Adélaïde de Savoie, duchesse de bourgogne et mère du futur roi de France Louis XV.

En effet, un anachronisme patent révoque la première thèse : la duchesse d’Humières est née en l’an 1635 et ce portrait présente une femme juvénile coiffée « à la Fontanges ». Cette coiffure, en vogue jusqu’au début du siècle suivant, ayant été créée en 1679, la duchesse d’Humières aurait plus de 45 ans sur les nombreux portraits évoqués plus haut! Enfin, le costume ne laisse aucun doute quand au rang de la jeune femme : le lourd manteau de velours bleu doublé de fourrure d’hermine est bien l’apanage des princes et des princesses de sang. Marie-Adélaïde de Savoie, petite-fille de Philippe d’Orléans (frère de Louis XIV) et épouse de Louis de France, duc de Bourgogne appartient bien à cette lignée.

Notre peinture est à rapprocher d’un grand portrait conservé à la Galleria Sabauda de Turin (voir photo) - tantôt identifié comme « portrait présumé de Marie-Adélaïde de Savoie » tantôt comme « portrait présumé de Françoise-Marie de Bourbon » - attribué à François de Troy et exécuté vers 1695. Le rapprochement s’impose tant pour la plastique du visage de la princesse que pour l’évidente analogie du costume. De plus, il est à noter la parfaite ressemblance de notre princesse avec le portrait ovale vendu par la maison Artcurial en septembre 2019 et décrit comme « portrait présumé de Marie-Adélaïde de Savoie » également attribué à Pierre Gobert" [1]
