English: Footbridge across the Hawthorn Burn Little water seems to flow in these deep wooded denes near the east Durham coast. Much probably goes underground through the underlying limestone rock. The denes which are particularly characteristic of this area were formed by glacier melt-water over several Ice Ages. |
