Description
English: Footpath near Park Bottom, Sherrington This is the public footpath, looking south-west, that runs between Park Bottom, behind the camera, and the centre of Great Ridge. The start of the Great Ridge woods and Longdean Bottom, a dry chalk valley, can be seen in the distance. The red sign says 'Warning. Keep to footpath. Firearms in use in this area', and the smaller white sign beyond says 'Young Pheasants. Please keep dogs on leads. Fonthill Estate'. The firearms are believed to refer to pheasant, partridge and wood pigeon shooting organised by the Fonthill Estate, the owners of Great Ridge. One can't help but think - if the dogs don't get the pheasants, the guns surely will.
