| Description | We are now at the site of the Yeddi Gumbaz Mausloleum, which contains graves and burial vaults of the Shirvan sheikhs. (the local rulers at one time). And while only three of the Gumbaz structures have their roof domes intact, only one is in real sound condition- this one right here. And here for a change are the gravestores/ tombs of people actually interred here. Over the past couple of days I have been here, I have seen in several places in Azerbaijan only grave stones removed from their original graves and placed on display elsewhere. We saw such 'display' gravestones near the Maiden Tower in Baku and in the Gobustan pertroglyphs reserve. (Shemakha (Shamakhi), Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017) |
