Description
English: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Liberman met this morning (12 October) with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev. The three discussed bilateral relations and the completion of pending economic and trade agreements between the countries. Ministers Liberman and Kanat signed a consultation agreement.

The leaders also discussed the political and security situation in the world and particularly in the Middle East. FM Liberman thanked President Nazarbayev for his policies, which promote good relations between the two states, and stated that Kazakhstan can serve as an example of a country that preserves its own traditions while being tolerant of other religions and traditions. FM Liberman also said that President Peres’s visit to Kazakhstan contributed to strengthening the relations between the two states, a trend Israel intends to continue.

FM Liberman agreed to Kazakhstan’s request to support its candidacy for the Executive Board of UNESCO at the vote to take place on Wednesday and also to Kazakhstan’s upgrade in the Kyoto Protocol on the environment. The Kazakhs for their part agreed to support the Israeli representative in her bid for a second term on the UNESCO Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.
