Description
English: As seen in May 2020: one of the most famous "ghost signs" in Buffalo is the one across the front of the warehouse at 1705 Broadway, the former Broadway Barns of the International Railway Company, which reads "IRC CONTINUES TRANSIT PROGRESS - MORE BUSES - POSTWAR MODELS". A predecessor to the modern-day Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, the International Railway Company was founded in 1902 as a merger of several Buffalo-area interurban railways and provided bus and streetcar service to the city until 1950; the Broadway Barns were the site where many of Buffalo's last streetcars (excluding, of course, the modern-day Metro Rail) were decommissioned. It's now used as office and warehouse space for Umbra, a home decor and interior design firm headquartered in Toronto.
